Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)

What is AFIP?

This is for service personnel and veterans who have been seriously injured in service on or after 6 April 2005.

It’s extra money to cover any costs you might have because of your injury.

Can I get AFIP?

The higher rate mobility part of AFIP is currently £71.00 per week. You can apply for the Motability Scheme if you have at least 12 months left on your allowance.

You might be able to claim AFIP if you’ve been seriously injured as a service personnel or in the armed forces.

You might be eligible for AFIP if:

If you’re eligible for AFIP, you do not need an initial or future assessment, and you’ll keep receiving payments throughout your life. It is not means-tested or affected by earnings, other income or savings.

You cannot get AFIP if you already receive Disability Living Allowance (DLA), Personal Independence Payment (PIP) or War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS).

You can see more about who is eligible and how to apply on the Veterans UK website, or you can call 0808 1914 218.

How much can I receive?

The mobility component of this allowance is currently £71.00 per week. That’s the same as DLA and PIP.

When you’re searching for a vehicle, please choose ‘DLA’ or ‘PIP’ as your allowance type.
