About Us

The Motability Scheme provides a simple way to enjoy a new car, scooter or powered wheelchair without the worry of owning and running one. Today, around 600,000 disabled people and their families benefit from the worry-free mobility available throughout the Scheme.

Motability was established to help disabled people with their mobility needs and to enjoy the independence so many of us take for granted.
Before Motability was established, disabled people usually received a small, blue trike, unable to take passengers.

How do Motability Operations collect the payments?

Motability Operations receives the 4 weekly payment for the lease agreement as a direct transfer from the relevant benefits agency.

Who are Motability and Motability Operations?

Motability provide worry-free leasing packages for over 600,000 customers to help disabled people with their personal mobility.

As a fundraising charity, Motability raises over £2.4 million for our Charitable Grants Programme to help disabled people who have or are applying for a Motability vehicle and who may not be able to afford the mobility solution they may need. Motability provides a grant towards car adaptations, Advance Payments for larger more expensive vehicles and driving lessons for young disabled people aged 16-24.

Motability regulates and oversees the activities of Motability Operations, a not for profit organisation which runs and operates the Motability Scheme.

What do I get for my money?

Joining the Motability Contract Hire Scheme opens the door to years of worry-free motoring.

You can exchange your Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance or War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement for a new car.

You can also choose to pay an Advance Payment to increase your choice of car. All you need to budget for is fuel, the occasional top up of the engine oil and other consumables.

What happens when prices change?

Our price lists are updated every three months so that we can offer our customers the best deals from each manufacturer. We also offer a 'Price Guarantee' meaning the price confirmed at the time of your application is the price you pay even if the price goes up before you collect your car.

The dates the new prices are published are: - 1st January - 1st April - 1st July - 1st October. Please note that if the specification of the car changes after the application, the price may be subject to change. If you feel that there are extenuating circumstances which challenge our price guarantee, please contact our Customer Services team.

How long does it take to get the information pack?

We aim to have our information pack arrive within 7 days from your request. However, this is not always possible due to high demand and the quarterly price changes.

What is the Higher Rate Mobility Component?

The Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance (HRMC DLA) is provided by the Department of Work and Pensions. This allowance can be used to cover the cost of a Motability lease agreement.

This allowance is currently £55.25 per week (as of 10/04/2013).

How much money do you take?

A huge range of cars are available to lease through Motability, simply by exchanging all or part of your Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance (£54.05 p/w) or the War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement (£60.40 p/w). This does not affect other benefits you may receive. Depending on your personal mobility needs, you may need to consider a car that requires an Advance Payment . We currently have over 450 cars available for no Advance Payment.

Use our Car Search to search current prices. Don't forget, when you lease a car with Motability, insurance, breakdown cover, servicing and maintenance, tyre and windscreen replacement are all included in the worry-free package . All you need to pay for is fuel and oil.

Can I get discounts on Haven Holidays?

Haven Holidays are working in association with Motability (the Charity that oversees the Motability scheme), to offer customer savings of up to 50% off Haven family holidays and short breaks. For every Haven Holiday booked using this promotion, Haven Holidays will donate 10% of the booking value to Motability's charitable fund.
