Are there any electric vehicles on the Scheme?

There are a limited number of electric vehicles available to lease through Motability and further details can be found by selecting ‘Other fuel type’ in the advanced settings of the Car Search tool. If you are looking to lease an electric vehicle, there are a couple of important things to consider:

Lifestyle
Electric vehicles are only suitable for people who travel shorter distances. Electric cars can only travel a certain distance before needing to be recharged so you should have an alternative form of transport available to you for longer journeys

Vehicle charging
A charging point will need to be fitted outside your home by the car manufacturer’s chosen electric partner, for example British Gas. In order to have a home charging point fitted you will need to have access to off-road parking such as a private driveway or garage.

Before you place your application, your dealer will run through some important details to make sure the car is suitable for your needs.

What happens if I want to change my current car for an automatic model?

Remember that if we do agree to change your vehicle, cars with automatic transmission tend to have more expensive Advance Payments . There are some adaptations which may help you without the need to change your car. To find out more, please visit the adaptations pages . You can only cancel your lease agreement if you have extenuating circumstances with a valid reason. You may be asked to pay a fee of up to £250 and you will not be eligible for a Good Condition Bonus . If you would still like to discuss cancelling your agreement, please call our Customer Services team .

What do I need to do before the end of my car lease?

You need to start thinking about looking for a new car and handing your current car back approximately 3 months before the end of your lease (you can order your new car at this time). For 3 year leases, you will be contacted by your managing dealer to arrange an MOT. We will also send you a reminder in the post, including our Car Price Guide around this time.

Your dealer may be able to arrange a short term extension to your current lease if your new car does not arrive before the end of your current lease. Find out more about your options at the end of your lease.

Can I transfer an adaptation from my old car?

This may be possible as along as the adaptations are suitable for your new car. Your adaptation installer will be able to advise you of cars that might work with your existing adaptation.In most cases you will need to pay the cost to transfer the adaptation directly to your installer and you must advise RSAM for insurance purposes. However, to make things easier, we now have some larger adaptations which can be reused as part of the programme and have a transfer price listed. Can I fit winter tyres or snow chains?

If you live in a remote area or somewhere that regularly experiences extreme weather conditions you could consider having snow tyres, chains or socks fitted to your Motability car. However, this will be at your own cost and you must contact our Customer Services team to discuss this before arranging fitting.

Please ensure that the driving conditions are safe for you to make your return journey before setting out and ensure that you follow the manufacturer's instructions for the product.

What excess do I have to pay if I have an accident?

The excess payable for insurance claims is quoted in your lease terms and conditions and your policy schedule. For confirmation of the amount or to discuss any queries, please contact RSA Motability .

My keys have been stolen

If your keys have been stolen you should report the theft to the police, then contact RSA Motability with the Crime Reference Number, to arrange replacements.

Does it matter if a driver has points on their licence?

If a permitted driver has points on their licence, they will need to be disclosed at the time of application. If the driver's licence has been endorsed during the agreement, you will need to inform RSA Motability immediately. Failure to do so may be considered a breach of terms and conditions and RSA Motability may repudiate any claim where there has been a failure to disclose a change in a permitted drivers details. Upon notification of any change in risk RSA Motability will confirm if cover can continue for the affected driver.
