There are many things to think about when choosing a car, including how suitable it may be, whether it is an affordable choice and even its impact on the environment.

Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles

If you are a wheelchair user, you may prefer a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) which has been converted so that you can stay in your wheelchair for the journey, either as a passenger or a driver.

Adapting your car

Adaptations are available through Motability to make your driving, or travelling, experience as comfortable as possible. Adaptations can help you drive, stow your wheelchair or scooter, or get in and out of the car.

How do I find the most suitable car?

There is no substitute for taking a test drive to help you find a car that meets your needs, but with a huge range of cars available, you can't try out every one. Motability Operations has teamed up with 'What Car?' and Ricability to provide helpful information on all our cars that will help you narrow down a shortlist of cars that may be suitable for your needs. Remember that Motability dealers are there to help and will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Before you order your car, your dealer will take you through a Motability Suitability Questionnaire . This is designed to make sure the car you're considering, and Motability, is right for you.

What cars are available at nil Advance Payment?

There are currently over 300 cars available at nil Advance Payment, and some that take less than the full allowance. To find these cars, visit our Car Search and select 'No Advance Payment' from the Advance Payment drop down menu option.

Where can I find out more about Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles?

Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs) are available on the Motability Scheme and have never been more affordable. There's much information about WAVs on our website and you can also talk to one of our WAV suppliers . They can help determine the best solution for you. Many Motability Accredited Suppliers will give home demonstrations of the Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles available.

What Nearly New WAVs are available?

Once you decided on the WAV suitable for your needs, please contact the converter of your choice and they will take you through their product range both new and Nearly New . They will discuss your needs and advise you of the benefits of both options. If you are interested in a Nearly New WAV they will be able to check current stock availability for suitable WAVs. A Nearly New WAV will be less than 2 years old, and will be in good condition.

There will be limitations around model, age, mileage, colour etc., and we recommend you give these serious consideration before making a final decision. I can give you contact details for converters who may have the WAV of your choice in stock. This is only a guide and the converter will be able to tell you which Nearly New WAVs they have available in stock.

The car or WAV I want is not on the price list?

Motability aims to provide affordable, worry-free motoring for all our customers, and we currently have a huge range of cars and Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles available to lease. Our Car Search allows you to search for cars by either vehicle details (e.g. make, model, size, price, emissions) or accessibility requirements to help you build a list of cars that best suit your needs. If you are not able to find a car that meets your needs, please contact our Customer Services team to discuss your needs.

Can I get my new car from a different dealer?

There is no restriction to the manufacturer or dealer where you get your new car from as long as they are a Motability accredited dealer . You are not obliged to stay with your current dealer, in fact, we recommend you look around for the most suitable car for you. When you come to collect your new car, you will leave your current Motability car at the dealership that is supplying your new car, regardless of manufacturer.

Where can I find the dimensions of cars?

Within our Car Search , you can search by a range of vehicle dimensions. Try narrowing down your search by; seat height, door width, head room, boot length and door opening angle. Once you have narrowed down the search, you can also view more specific details about individual cars by selecting the model name.

Are there any 'green' cars available?

We are very conscious about the environment and are always looking to make the Scheme 'greener'. This includes highlighting 'greener cars' to help make your choice easier. Remember, greener cars are also more fuel efficient, so this means they cost less to run too!
