The Big Event is the Motability Scheme's biggest event of the year. Held entirely indoors over two days at EventCity, Manchester, it's your chance to see the largest ever display of Motability Scheme vehicles in the UK!

The Big Event provides the perfect opportunity to discover everything you need to know about worry-free motoring with Motability.

What's at The Big Event?

The event will host the UK’s largest display of vehicles available through the Motability Scheme, including:

  • Over 100 cars from 27 different manufacturers
  • Over 40 scooters and powered wheelchairs
  • Adaptations from a wide range of adaptation companies
  • Over 25 Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles

You can also:

  • Test drive adapted and non adapted cars
  • Chat to our Motability advisors who are on hand to answer your questions
  • Meet our Scheme Partners - Kwik Fit, RAC and RSA Motability
  • Get advice from The Forum of Mobility Centres and Disabled Motoring UK

Plus, there's:

  • A free hot or cold drink for every visitor
  • Children's entertainment including Billy the Bear!

Our free Event Guide will give you a full list of all the cars, scooters and powered wheelchairs on display. This will available to download closer to the date and also available to pick up on the day.

We've pulled together some handy information to help you plan your visit to The Big Event at EventCity, Manchester.

Opening times

Free refreshments

On arrival you’ll be given a token that you can exchange for a free tea, coffee or soft drink and there will be a range of hot and cold food available to purchase.

Event layout

All displays at The Big Event will be indoors. To help you plan your day, we will have an event floor plan available for download closer to the time.

What's at the event for kids?

There will be a children’s entertainment area with free face painting, free balloon modelling and much more. Plus, you'll get the chance to meet our mascot, Billy the Motability Bear!

Dogs

Only assistance dogs are permitted at the events. Unfortunately no other dogs or pets are allowed. Please do not leave dogs in your car while you attend the event.

Free mobility scooter and wheelchair loan

We have a limited number of scooters and manual wheelchairs available to borrow free of charge - these will be available to book online from Monday 27 March 2017.  These can be booked by clicking the link on the right hand side of this page after Monday 27 March 2017.

 

Test drive adapted and non adapted cars at The Big Event!

You can test drive adapted and non-adapted cars, both as a driver or passenger to see which vehicles best suit your needs. The adapted cars are fitted with a wide range of different adaptations including hand controls, steering wheel balls, electronic brakes and left foot accelerators.

We have professional driving instructors that will accompany you on your test drive to help make you feel as safe as possible.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to test drive Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs). However, there will be lots of WAVs to see, experts on hand to answer your questions and you can arrange a home demonstration for a later date.

You will be unable to take a test drive if you have certain penalty points on your licence. Please view our full terms and conditions Will download a resource(PDF 75KB) for more information.

To book a test drive, simply:

  1. Choose the car you would like to test drive
  2. Show the photocard part of your full UK driving licence to the test drive team
  3. Sign our Test Drive Declaration form on the day (this simply says you agree to our terms and conditions Will download a resource(PDF 75KB) and that you meet the test drive eligibility criteria)
  4. That’s it...you’re ready to take your test drive!

We want to make sure that all of our visitors have a fantastic day at our event, that's why we do our best to make it as accessible and inclusive as possible.

Fully accessible venue

All areas of the venue and event are fully accessible to both scooters and wheelchairs.

Accessible toilets

We provide a large number of fully accessible toilets along with a toilet equipped with adult and child changing facilities.

Plenty of free accessible parking with shuttle service

There is lots of free accessible parking alongside the venue, take a look at the 'parking' tab for more information.

Friendly staff on hand to help

Our staff have one goal and that is to make sure you have a great experience at our event.  If you need any assistance just ask one of the team, they will be more than happy to help you.

Assistance dogs welcome

Assistance dogs are welcome at the event, however, any other dogs or pets are not allowed.  Please do not leave your dogs in your car while you attend the event.

Free scooter and wheelchair loan

We have a limited number of scooters and manual wheelchairs available to borrow free of charge - these will be available to book online from Monday 28 March 2016. These can be booked by clicking the link on the right hand side of this page.

By car

EventCity is conveniently located close to the M6, M62, M56 and M60 and is easily accessible by car.

  • If travelling from the M60 North, take Junction 10 for the B5214 and follow signs for EventCity and 'The Big Event'.
  • From the M60 South, take Junction 9 for the A5081 and follow signs for Barton Dock Road and EventCity or 'The Big Event'.

If using a sat nav the best postcode to use is: M17 8AS.

By local bus

X50 - Manchester City Centre's Express Service
The Trafford Centre's high frequency express bus link leaves from Piccadilly Gardens Bus Station Stand K every 15 minutes from early until late (via MediaCityUK Manchester and MUFC).

250 - Stagecoach Manchester Bus Service
The Trafford Centre's high frequency bus link leaves from Piccadilly Gardens Bus Station Stand K every 15 minutes from early until late (via MUFC and Manchester University).

Trafford Bus Station
This is approximately 10 minutes walk from EventCity and serviced by bus routes from all over Greater Manchester. There are frequent buses providing a connection every five minutes (services 18, 247, 250 and X50) from the bus station to EventCity. Please check with the individual bus operators to find accessibility information.

By train

Manchester Piccadilly Bus service X50 or 250 from Piccadilly Gardens Bus Station stopping at the EventCity bus stop.

Manchester Victoria Bus service 100 (every 12 minutes) or Service 110 (every 20 minutes) stopping at The Trafford Centre bus station.

By taxi

There will be a dedicated taxi drop off point directly outside the main entrance to EventCity.

We want to make sure that every visitor to The Big Event has a fantastic day and we know that accessible parking is one of the most important things. That's why we do our best to make sure you can park as easily as possible and get to the event without any fuss.

Important parking information

Blue Badge Holders
Parking for Blue Badge holders is available in the car park directly next to EventCity. Please make sure you bring your Blue Badge with you to gain access to this car park. When this car park is full, visitors can park in the two additional visitor car parks.

Other parking
In addition to our dedicated Blue Badge car park there are also two visitor car parks: car park 'A' and car park 'B'. These are located very close to EventCity and will be clearly signposted.

  • Car park 'A' is a short walk to the venue
  • Car park 'B' is a two minute journey on one of our fully accessible shuttle buses which will drop you right by the event entrance.

Golf buggy car park service

We provide a golf buggy service all day to help you get from the car park to the main entrance  (available in Blue Badge parking and car park 'A'). If you would like to take advantage of this service, just look out for the pick up points dotted around or speak to one of our friendly welcome hosts in the car park.

Car park welcome hosts

Our welcome hosts are there to help you with any issues you may have in the car park.  From giving you a hand unloading your scooter to helping you to the entrance with an umbrella, or just having a friendly chat, they are there to help. You can't miss our hosts as they will be wearing bright yellow coats. If you need any help, just ask!

Information for organisations wanting to exhibit at the event

Exhibiting at our events is by invitation only,  it is therefore not possible to request to become an exhibitor at any of our events.

Here are some of the most Frequently Asked Questions that our visitors ask about the events.

What time does the event start and finish?

The event opens at 9am and finishes at 4pm.

Can I bring my dog or pet?

Assistance dogs are permitted at the events. Unfortunately no other dogs or pets are allowed. Please do not leave dogs in your car while you attend the event.

How much does it cost to get in?

Our events are totally free to attend.

Do I have to book tickets?

There's no need to book tickets, simply turn up on the day.

Do I need to pre-book my test drive?

We do not offer the option to pre-book test drives. These are offered on a first come, first served basis. Take a look at our test drive section for more information.

I have lost the invitation I received in the post, do I need it?

If you received an invitation in the post and you have misplaced it, don't worry! You don't need it to get into the event and you can simply complete a new prize draw form if you want to enter the draw.

I am a company or organisation and want to enquire about exhibiting at your event
