The Motability Scheme enables disabled people to lease a new car, scooter or powered wheelchair by exchanging their Government funded mobility allowance . If you receive either the Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance, the Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP) , the War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS) or the Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP) you may be eligible to join the Motability Scheme.

What cars are available at nil Advance Payment?

There are currently over 300 cars available at nil Advance Payment, and some that take less than the full allowance. To find these cars, visit our Car Search and drag the Advance Payment slider bar to the zero (0) value.

How do I find the most suitable car?

There is no substitute for taking a test drive to help you find a car that meets your needs, but with a huge range of cars available, you can't try out every one. Motability Operations has teamed up with 'What Car?' and Ricability to provide helpful information on all our cars that will help you narrow down a shortlist of cars that may be suitable for your needs. Remember that Motability dealers are there to help and will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Before you order your car, your dealer will take you through a Motability Suitability Questionnaire . This is designed to make sure the car you're considering, and Motability, is right for you.

The car or WAV I want is not on the price list?

Motability aims to provide affordable, worry-free motoring for all our customers, and we currently have a huge range of cars and Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles available to lease. Our Car Search allows you to search for cars by either vehicle details (e.g. make, model, size, price, emissions) or accessibility requirements to help you build a list of cars that best suit your needs. If you are not able to find a car that meets your needs, please contact our Customer Services team to discuss your needs.

Why do some cars have an Advance Payment?

Some larger or high specification cars require an additional upfront payment or ' Advance Payment ' as we call it. The Advance Payment is not a refundable deposit, it covers the difference between the cost of your car and your allowance paid over the length of the agreement. However there is a range of around 300 cars available with no Advance Payment.

There are even some cars available that cost less than your weekly allowance, meaning you will still receive the remainder of your allowance to spend however you choose.

Where can I find the dimensions of cars?

Within our Car Search , you can search by a range of vehicle dimensions. Try narrowing down your search by; seat height, door width, head room, boot length and door opening angle. Once you have narrowed down the search, you can also view more specific details about individual cars by selecting the model name.

Are there any 'green' cars available?

We are very conscious about the environment and are always looking to make the Scheme 'greener'. This includes highlighting 'greener cars' to help make your choice easier. More information about choosing a 'green' car is available on the ' greener choices ' page including our tips for driving 'greener'.

Remember, greener cars are also more fuel efficient, so this means they cost less to run too!

What colours can I order a car in?

Your supplying Motability dealer will be able to advise you of the colours available for particular models on the Motability Scheme. Many dealers now offer solid paint ranges, in addition to standard metallic paints, at no additional cost. Special edition or premium paint options may have an additional cost, your supplying Motability dealer will let you know if this is the case.

What is the average miles per gallon for a vehicle?

The average MPG (miles per gallon) for cars available to lease through Motability can be found in the Car Price Guide on our Useful Downloads page . Or, you can view the information online through our Car Search .
