When you apply to lease a vehicle on the Motability Scheme, we’ll send you a booklet with the relevant Terms and Conditions. Which booklet we send is determined by the date we accepted your agreement.
If you applied for a car or WAVWheelchair Accessible Vehicle on or after 1 July 2026, your terms and conditions depend on whether your agreement qualifies for HMRC VAT relief.
The changes to the Motability Scheme lease package will apply to you from 1 September 2026. This is because the Scheme in Scotland operates under a separate agreement called the Accessible Vehicles and Equipment Scheme (AVES).

The terms and conditions for your lease depend on when your lease agreement was accepted, your allowance provider, if you qualify for HMRC VAT relief or whether you meet the rural and islands isolation criteria, or both.
