Visit your dealer

Once you’ve narrowed down your choices, visit a Motability Scheme dealer and they’ll order your car for you.

Plan your visit

Take someone with you

We know choosing a car is a big decision, so bring someone with you to talk things over with, if you can. If anyone else is ever going to drive your car, they should test drive it too.

Visit more than one dealer

There’s no need to stick to one dealer. Visit a few, so you get a better idea of which car will suit you best.

Plan ahead, for automatics and adaptations

If you want to test drive an automatic car, call your dealer first to arrange this, as there are usually less of these on site.

You can visit a Driving Mobility(opens in a new window) centre to help find out which adaptations best suit your needs. Call our customer services team on 0300 456 4566 to arrange an assessment.

At the dealer

Take a test drive

Drive or ride in every car you’re interested in. We recommend you try at least three. Test drives are key to making sure you’re totally happy.

Make the most of your dealer

Do not be afraid to ask them questions. They’ll talk you through everything and make suggestions. You might even find a better car, with their help.

Things to check in the car

  • You can get in and out comfortably
  • Check how the door opens and how high you are from the ground
  • The headroom is enough and how you adjust the seat
  • You can reach the seatbelt
  • You can see all the mirrors
  • You can load the boot and there’s enough room to store things
  • You like the car’s special features
  • Whether there are any adaptations you might need
