How to get the adaptations you need
Check if you’re eligible
Use our tool to see if you or someone you know is eligible to join the Scheme. It only takes a minute.
Speak to an adaptations installer
Not all adaptations fit every vehicle. Talk to an installer before you look for a vehicle. They can recommend vehicles that are right for the adaptations you need.
Find a vehicle for your adaptations
Tell your adaptations installer about your lifestyle, needs and who travels with you. They can then help you narrow down your vehicle choices. It’s important to find a vehicle that’s compatible with the adaptations you need, as not every adaptation is compatible with every car.
Order your new vehicle
Visit a dealer to look at vehicles. Talk to them about the adaptations recommended by the adaptations installer. The dealer can help you choose the right vehicle. If you’re ordering an electric car, we’ll help you consider your charging options first.
Pick up your new vehicle
The adaptations installer will arrange for your adaptations to be fitted with the dealer. The dealer will contact you to arrange a date for you to pick up your vehicle.

Insurance cover
We’ll arrange this for you. You can add up to three drivers and can change these at any time.
Servicing and MOT
We’ll cover your regular services and routine repairs, to keep your vehicle running perfectly.
Breakdown cover
We’ll give you RAC cover, so you can travel with peace of mind.
Support with your electric car
We’ll arrange a home chargepoint and a standard installation as part of your lease, or give you access to the bp pulse network of over 9,000 public chargepoints. This depends on a few things

We'll arrange a Driving Mobility test to help you decide which adaptations you need.
Many adaptations on the Motability Scheme are now available at no additional cost, as long as they’re fitted at the start of your lease. If you’re not able to afford essential adaptations, the Motability Foundation might be able to help.
Can I add adaptations during my lease?
Can I transfer an adaptation from my old vehicle?
Can I modify my vehicle or add extras?
You can add factory-fitted optional extras or accessories to your vehicle when you order it. You’ll need to pay any extra costs.
