I currently receive DLA, how will I know when I need to apply for Personal Independence Payment (PIP)?

The DWP are writing to affected DLA recipients in Great Britain informing them that they need to apply for PIP. If you have not already been contacted, the most important thing you can do at this stage is to ensure that the department has your correct contact details. You do not need to apply for PIP until you are individually contacted by the DWP.

Since 2016 the Department for Communities in Northern Ireland have also been contacting affected DLA recipients informing them to apply for PIP, but have now completed this process.

Please note that your annual allowance letter that you will receive from the DWP in Spring is not the invitation to make a claim, you will receive separate notice of this.

DLA recipients in Great Britain can find out more about PIP at gov.uk/pipOpens in new window, and in Northern Ireland at nidirect.gov.uk/personal-independence-paymentOpens in new window.

Please note that in Scotland, PIP is being replaced with Adult Disability Payment which will be administered by Social Security Scotland rather than the DWP.
