What restrictions are there for young drivers coming onto the Motability Scheme?

Only one named driver under 21 is permitted on your Certificate of Motor Insurance. This could be the disabled customer, or another driver living at the same address. Unless they are the customer, drivers under 21 must hold a full driving licence.

In addition, there are a few rules around the vehicles that drivers under 25 can drive. For petrol, diesel and hybrid vehicles, drivers under 25 are restricted to cars with an ABI Insurance Group rating of 16 or lower and a power output of 120 brake horsepower or less. For electric cars, drivers under 25 are restricted to cars with an ABI Insurance Group rating of 21 or lower and a power output of 140 brakehorse power or less. For further information you can also contact RSA Motability.
