Drive Smart is a small device that fits discreetly in your car. It looks at how the car is driven, like speed, accelerating and braking.
This helps us understand how you use your vehicle and support safer driving.

Insurance is one of the biggest costs on the Scheme. By encouraging safer driving, Drive Smart can help keep insurance costs down for all customers and make the road safer for everyone.
We’ll post your device to your home. It fits through your letter box.
You can fix it yourself, neatly in the corner of your windscreen.
You’ll get a welcome email with instructions on how to download the app and create your account.
Just so you know, you’ve got 10 days to complete setup and start using the app.
Connect your device to the app using Bluetooth, then invite all your drivers. Each driver will need to download and use the app too.
If you activate your account, add your drivers and take your first trip within 10 days, you’ll get 400 reward points. This could be used towards a voucher of your choice for brands like M&S or Asda.
Keep your phone with you and drive as usual. It can be helpful to attach your phone to a secure mount, so that it does not move around during your journey. The app automatically logs your driving in the background.
Drive safely and you’ll earn points each week. We’ll send you a weekly summary of your driving score, and any hints and tips, so you can unlock up to £160 per year in rewards.
Drive Smart is only included in your lease if:
If you’re an existing customer and all the drivers on your lease are over 30, you will not get Drive Smart, unless you've had multiple insurance claims. Even when you order your next vehicle.
If you have Drive Smart because you are new to the Motability Scheme, this will only apply to your first full lease.
Your Drive Smart score is based on a range of environmental and behavioural driving factors, including:
Drive Smart helps encourage safer and more mindful driving, and that applies to everyone using the car, not just one person. That is why all drivers on your lease need to use it. This way, we can get a clear and fair picture of how the car is being driven overall. It also means everyone has the chance to build safer habits.

This is because we delete your personal data after seven years, in line with our privacy policy.
If the driver under 30 is no longer on your lease, you might not need Drive Smart anymore. Please get in touch with us and we’ll update your account.
If you are a customer eligible for Drive Smart, you will be rewarded for you and your drivers safe driving. You can earn up to £160 per year in e-gift cards.
If you or one of your drivers achieves a red weekly driving score, we’ll send you personalised advice based on your driving behaviour.
If you or one of your drivers often get red weekly scores, your lease may be impacted and this could affect your ability to join the Scheme in the future.
We check driving scores every week for each vehicle. This helps us understand how safely the vehicle is being driven and how likely it is to have an accident.
You don’t need to tell us if something unusual happens just once. But if you think something has been recorded wrong more than once and has a severe impact on your overall driving score we’ll look into this and fix it if needed.

If you or any of your drivers are under 30, Drive Smart will soon be included with all new applications. Your device will be posted to you after you collect your new vehicle.
We will also start contacting existing customers with an under-30 driver on their lease to arrange adding Drive Smart to their current vehicle.
If you add an under 30 driver during the lease, you will be required to have Drive Smart as part of your lease.
All drivers insured on the vehicle will be required to use Drive Smart with the Motability Scheme.

The app works on most smartphones, but not all Android models. Phones like Xiaomi, Oppo, Huawei, Honor, and others that don’t fully support Google Play services will not be compatible.
To use Drive Smart with the Motability Scheme, you and any drivers on your lease will need a smartphone and an email address.
The app does not use much data, so a basic data plan is usually enough. We recommend using a smartphone so you can see your driving scores, get helpful tips, and earn rewards for safe driving.
If using a smartphone is not possible for you, we may be able to provide an alternative. This involves fitting a device to your car that can collect your driving data.
