Breakdown assistance and cover for scooters and powered wheelchairs

Your scooter or powered wheelchair is fully covered by specialist breakdown assistance for the life of your lease agreement.

Motability Assist

If your scooter or powered wheelchair breaks down while you are out and about, or you have an accident, you can be confident that Motability Assist helpline and recovery staff are trained to handle your calls and are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Motability Assist will take you and your product back to your home address if you have an accident or breakdown during your day-to-day activities. Please be advised, if you are on holiday or away from home with your product within the UK and need assistance, Motability Assist will take you and your product back to your local accommodation.

If you are taking a holiday outside of the UK, you will need to arrange insurance and breakdown cover separately before you go. Motability Assist will only provide the 'get you home' service within the UK.

Your breakdown cover is only for the scooter or powered wheelchair, and doesn't include any other vehicle you might be travelling in.

What to do if your scooter or powered wheelchair breaks down

While you are out and about

Try to get your scooter or powered wheelchair into a safe place away from any potential hazards, then call Motability Assist on 0800 953 5000 who will advise you on the next steps. You can then arrange with your Motability dealer to carry out a repair. Please be aware that Motability Assist provide a ‘get you home’ service only and will not be able to carry out repairs on the spot.

While you are at home

If you are at home and your scooter breaks down then you should just call your dealer who will be able to advise you on what the next steps are.

Download the app

A new smartphone app has been launched to help if your product breaks down. The app means Motability Assist can pinpoint your exact location and get to you as quickly as possible, even if you're not sure exactly where you are.

To take advantage you must download the app in advance of being in a breakdown situation. Search for 'Motability Recovery' and follow the simple on-screen instructions to complete the initial set up. The app is simple to install and use and costs the same as a single text message. If you have any difficulties downloading the app, please speak to your dealer who will be happy to help.

Once the app is downloaded on your phone, if you ever break down, simply open the app, click 'Rescue me' to generate a text message with the coordinates of your exact location and press send. Please note this app is only available for customers who lease a scooter or powered wheelchair through the Motability Scheme and benefit from the all-inclusive leasing package.
