Personalised number plates
It may be possible to add personalised number plates to your car. To discuss your options, please call our Customer Services team on 0300 456 4566. When you call, we will ask for details to ensure that the new plates are officially owned by you or a partner who lives with you and are being fitted for your benefit. The details on the personalised number plates must relate either to you, the customer, or your partner.
If we agree to add your personalised number plates, we may also be able to update the online DVLA record on your behalf whilst you are on the phone to us or with your dealer.
We can remove your plate for you if you are returning your car or transferring number plates between cars, but we are unable to accept any responsibility for the retention or transfer of a personalised plate and you may lose your entitlement to the personalised plate if we have not been notified of your plans. Please contact us on 0300 456 4566 to tell us what you plan to do or speak to your dealer.
Adding new plates for the first time
To add personalised plates for the first time call us on 0300 456 4566 . Before contacting us you will need the Certificate of Entitlement (V750) or Retention Certificate (V778) issued from the DVLA.
Transferring number plates between Motability Scheme cars
If you have already placed an order for a new Motability Scheme car, or you are planning to do so, contact your dealer to request a transfer of your personalised plate to the new car. It's a good idea to ask your dealer as far in advance as possible.
Your dealer will check that the plate complies with our Scheme rules as part of the transfer process. Once the process has been completed, we will update RSA Motability with the new registration details but it will be your responsibility to arrange for age-related plates to be made and fitted to the car you are returning. The DVLA currently charge a fee of £80.
Removing plates when you return your car
We will send you a letter approximately four weeks before you are due to end your current lease with more information.

- If you wish to remove your personalised number plate, you will also need to arrange this before you hand your car back. You can complete the first half of this process on the DVLA websiteOpens in new window . The details you will need include the registration number you want to keep, your postcode (where the car is registered) and document reference number from the V5C registration certificate (which will be sent to you in our letter approximately four weeks before the end of your lease). You should also have a debit or credit card to hand to pay the DVLA fee, which is currently £80. - The DVLA currently charge a fee of £80. Once the plate has been removed, you will need to arrange for the age-related plates to be made and fitted to your current car within three working days
- If you do not wish to keep your personalised number plates, please contact our Customer Services team on 0300 456 4566 as soon as possible to confirm that you are happy to relinquish your rights to the plate. If you choose this option, we will sell the car at the end of your lease with your personalised number plate on it, resulting in you losing the right to display this number plate on a car in the future.
