The end of your lease

At the end of your lease you can simply hand back your scooter or powered wheelchair. If like most customers you choose to stay with us, you can select a new product and begin a new lease. Motability Scheme leases generally run for three years from the date your vehicle was delivered.

Getting your next scooter or powered wheelchair

We’ll send you a letter around three months before the end of your lease to let you know what you need to do to hand back your current product and how to go about choosing your next scooter or powered wheelchair. This letter will include the date from when you can place your next order, so you will know when to start contacting dealers to see which scooters or powered wheelchairs are now available and may be suitable to take some test drives.

End of contract bonus

When you reach the end of your lease agreement you will qualify for a £100 End of Contract Bonus.

The quickest way to receive this is by updating your bank details in your Motability Scheme online account. We'll then send this to you by bank transfer in a couple of days, otherwise we'll send a cheque in a couple of weeks. There's no need to contact us about this - we will automatically send this to you after you return your product.

If you’ve already updated your preference to bank transfer, please double check your details are still correct before you return your product. You can easily update these in your online account if they have changed.

Please note if you have requested early payment of the End of Contract Bonus due to the COVID-19 situation, you will not receive this again when your product is returned.

If you were a Scheme customer as of 31 December 2021, you may also qualify for our £100 New Product Payment when you take delivery of your next scooter or powered wheelchair on the Scheme.

Short awards lease extension 

You will need to have at least 12 months' remaining on your qualifying allowance to order a new scooter or powered wheelchair. If you have less than 12 months' remaining when it's time to place a new application, we will be able to extend your current lease.

Leaving the Motability Scheme

We'll be sorry to lose you as a customer, but we'll try to make the process of reinstating your mobility allowance as simple as possible. If at the end of your current lease, you decide that you don't want to lease another product, you will need to hand back your old scooter or powered wheelchair to your Motability dealer.

You'll need to ensure that you return all documentation including the manual, keys (including any spare keys issued) and the charging unit with the scooter or powered wheelchair. Once the dealer has confirmed that the product has been returned we’ll issue the End of Contract Bonus.

We will ask your benefit agency (the Department for Work and Pensions or Veterans UK) to reinstate your allowance. It could take six weeks from the end of your lease until you receive your allowance again.
