The end of your lease
At the end of your lease you just hand your scooter or powered wheelchair back and if like most customers you choose to stay with us, you can select a new product and take another lease. Motability Scheme leases generally run for three years from the date that you took delivery of your car.
Getting your next scooter or powered wheelchair
We’ll send you a letter around three months before the end of your lease to let you know what you need to do to hand back your current product and how to go about choosing your next scooter or powered wheelchair. This letter will include the date from when you can place your next order, so you will know when to start contacting dealers to see which scooters or powered wheelchairs are now available and may be suitable to take some test drives.
End of contract bonus
When you reach the end of your lease agreement you will qualify for a £100 End of Contract Bonus. This will be sent to you once the dealer has confirmed that the product has been returned.
There is no need to contact us - we will automatically send you a cheque within 14 days of the product being returned.
Short awards lease extension
If you have less than 12 months remaining on your allowance when it’s time to place a new application, we will extend your current lease until you have confirmation of your new award.
Leaving the Motability Scheme
We'll be sorry to lose you as a customer, but we'll try to make the process of reinstating your mobility allowance as simple as possible. If at the end of your current lease, you decide that you don't want to lease another product, you will need to hand back your old scooter or powered wheelchair to your Motability dealer.
You'll need to ensure that you return all documentation including the manual, keys (including any spare keys issued) and the charging unit with the scooter or powered wheelchair. Once the dealer has confirmed that the product has been returned we’ll issue the End of Contract Bonus.
We will ask your benefit agency (the Department for Work and Pensions or Veterans UK) to reinstate your allowance. It could take six weeks from the end of your lease until you receive your allowance again. If it takes longer than this, please contact our Customer Services team on 0300 456 4566 and we will try to help.
