Lease a lightweight wheelchair

These can help if you already use a wheelchair, but you’d benefit from having a second, lightweight wheelchair to use along with your car.

There are two different wheelchairs available – both come as either self-propelled, if you wish to travel independently, or attendant-controlled, if you need someone to push your wheelchair.

Both are lightweight and fold so you can transport them in your car.

You can also make some of the self-propelled wheelchairs simpler to fit in your boot by dismantling or removing the wheels, footrests or seat cushions.

Ready to order?

Speak to your dealer. They’ll order it for you at the same time as your car.

Then a specialist wheelchair dealer will contact you to make sure the wheelchair you've chosen will meet your needs.

You’ll get your wheelchair when you pick up your car. As with your car, we’ll cover any maintenance costs during your lease.

At the end of your lease, just return the wheelchair to the dealer when you give your car back.

How do I pay for the wheelchair?

You’ll need to pay the cost upfront to your dealer before you get your car. Speak to your dealer to find out how to pay.

Is the wheelchair supplied at the same time as the car?

Yes. When you collect your car, your wheelchair will be waiting for you inside your new car.

I need to order a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle. Can I get a wheelchair too?

Yes. Please call us on 0300 456 4566 to talk about this.

Can I get other adaptations too?

Yes, but having a lightweight wheelchair should remove the need for things like a hoist. If you need any adaptations to help you drive or access the car please speak to your dealer.

What if the wheelchair needs repairing?

As with your car, we’ll cover any maintenance costs during your lease.

How do I decide which wheelchair is right for me?

You’ll need to choose based on whether you are able to self-propel the wheelchair or whether you need someone to push the wheelchair.

Make sure you think about the weight too, to make sure it can be lifted in and out of your car, and select the right frame size to meet your needs.

Do not forget – after you’ve ordered, the specialist dealer will likely visit you at home to check the wheelchair you've ordered meets your needs.

Can I keep the wheelchair at the end of my lease?

No. The wheelchair is leased in the same way as your Scheme car. You need to return it with your car at the end of your lease.

What happens if the wheelchair stops meeting my needs?

We always expect what you lease will meet your needs for the full length of your lease. If the wheelchair becomes unsuitable, please contact us to discuss your options.

Do I need to keep the wheelchair in the car?

We normally expect you to keep it in your car, if it’s safe to keep it there. We lease these wheelchairs so they can help your mobility when you travel in your car.

Is the wheelchair insured?

Yes – for loss and accidental damage. As the wheelchair forms part of your lease, it will be covered.

You’ll need to call us on 0300 456 4566 if you have any loss or accidental damage to your wheelchair.
